Christmas Problem Solving

Here are some Maths problems for you to solve. Bring your answers to Room 5

1) Help Santa solve his Christmas problem

Santa looked outside to see how many of his reindeer and elves were helping
to finish up the final touches before he left for his trip around the world. But, when he looked outside, he could only see their legs. He couldn’t figure out how many elves and reindeer were outside. He counted 50 legs.

Santa wants you to help him figure out how many reindeer and how many elves are helping out.

2) Santa’s Elves

Santa has some very experienced elves and he has some new inexperienced elves. Each experienced elf can wrap 60 presents a day and each newer inexperienced elf can wrap 45 presents per day. Santa has a total of 9 elves who wrap presents. They wrap 510 presents a day.

How many experienced and inexperienced elves does Santa have?
How do you know?

3) Christmas Gift Problem

Sarah went shopping to buy Christmas presents for her family:
A grandmother
A grandfather
2 mothers
2 fathers
2 daughters
2 sons

She finished her shopping and everyone got a gift. She only bought 7 presents. How is this possible
